Pair of rare Ilmari Tapiovaara Crinolette chairs
Finland, 1960s
The Crinolette chair designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1962 is playfully named after the hooped, structured petticoats of the 19th century. Made from solid birch lacquered in white, the spoke back attaches to a sloping curve rail and a wide, softly rounded seat. Hairpin legs provide stability and a mid-century signature style. The delicacy and natural rhythm of these chairs is quite breathtaking. Only 5000 pieces were ever produced by Asko in the 1960's and we are honoured to have 2 pieces in our collection. Excellent restored condition. Sold as a pair, Price per chair.
